Deaf CanDo owns and administers the 'hi Deafness friendly' trademark.  Deaf CanDo requires the correct use of the 'hi Deafness Friendly' logo to identify and promote locations and venues that have been certified as hearing impaired and deafness friendly by Deaf CanDo.  Those hearing impaired and deafness friendly locations will gain certification once they have provided hearing augmentation or access and training to the satisfaction of Deaf CanDo.  Application for this can be made via contact details provided on this website.

The 'hi Deafness Friendly' symbol may be used by commercial enterprises as an advertising logo or in any way to promote or identify commercially available goods or services once those goods or services have been certified by Deaf CanDo as 'hi Deafness friendly'. Deaf CanDo will authorise the use of the 'hi Deafness Friendly' symbol in conjunction with any other hearing impaired or deafness related symbol by application to Deaf CanDo.  Application can be made direct via the 'hi Deafness Friendly' coordinator.
The 'hi Deafness Friendly' symbol may be used by organisations who have been certified by Deaf CanDo on letterheads, pamphlets, newsletters, websites and annual reports subject to the following conditions:

  • That the 'hi Deafness Friendly' location or locations are clearly marked by way of street or outlet address;
  • That the following web link is clearly marked - www.deafnessfriendly.com.au .
  • That any change in circumstance that would require a review of the 'hi Deafness Friendly' certification be reported immediately to Deaf CanDo for review;
  • That the use acknowledges Deaf CanDo's intellectual property ownership of the 'hi Deafness Friendly' trademark and agrees to be bound by the rules of use.

It is important that the 'hi Deafness Friendly' symbol is used correctly. If you have any doubts or wish to confirm the suitability of the use of the symbol in a specific situation please contact Deaf CanDo for advice.
